CRISIS IN OUR ECONOMY………..WHAT ABOUT HEALTHCARE

It seems that all we here about recently is about our economy and the economic crisis that we are facing.  First I must say that the government and banks did NOT cause this problem, PEOPLE DID.  No One held a gun to someones head and said You must buy this house that you really can’t afford.  The same goes for cars, boats, vacations, and everything that we have put on credit cards.  I recently heard that the average household in the U.S. has a $9000 dollar credit card balance while the average household income is around 50,000 dollars, One fifth of our income is owed to a credit card that is charging us between 8 and 30 percent interest.  Let’s call a apple and apple, WE HAVE NOT BEEN ACTING OUR WAGE.  I do not pretend to be the “master” of my own money (yet, but am getting much closer) nor do I judge anyone who got caught up in this easy credit economy.  My real concern is for our up and coming “health care crisis”  why do I say up and coming, because we are just now beginning to see the baby boomers get to the age where they are going to require more health care and I don’t see how we are going to keep up.  If you were to ask me for my opinion on what to do I would have to say there are a couple of things.

1) Make education more accessible for those who want to become a doctor or a nurse.

2) Educate the public on how to prepare themselves financially.

3) give tax breaks to those who stay home to take care of aging family members.

These are obviously not that easy but it is a place to start.  It is a very real and cruel situation when people are having to choose between eating or taking meds because they can’t afford to do both. In my opinion, That is a crisis.

What Does Home Health Mean to You??

In my  day to day running around and talking to people( I am accused of talking to much) I seem to get all kinds of answers to the question “What does home health mean to you?”.  Most of the time the answer is something like ” it is what you get when you are very sick.”  That is a misconception that a lot of people have.  You do not have to be extremely ill to benefit from home health, it may be something as simple as having someone to come by and help you do the daily task around the house while you recover from a surgery.  It may be that you have a family member that still can live independently, but needs someone to check on them and make sure that the quality of life is maintained to the highest level.  And there is the time when someone is very ill and needs medical care in the home.  Omega Home Health can answer your questions for you, all you have to do is email us or call us.  You will find it is not what you think if your perception of home health is the same as most of the people that I visit with.

What about Long Term care Insurance?

I do NOT represent or sell insurance, so you don’t have to hold your check book while you read this.  Now you are asking yourself if this guy doesn’t sell insurance then why would he be talking about it.  Let me tell you, I see on a daily basis where someone finds themselves in need of long term care and they don’t have a way to pay for it.  Usually it is a result of a surgery or accident and it leaves them unable to care for themselves, placing a burden on their family.  I do NOT like writing a check each month for insurance I may or may not need but seeing how it can make the difference between getting what you need or not it makes long term care insurance seem like a pretty good idea.  Here’s the kicker,  I did not realize that long term care insurance would pay for someone to come in and do daily household chores like laundry, cleaning, bathing, and such.  It can make it easier on the patient as well as the family.  Bottom line I recommend that you visit with a qualified insurance person to make sure you have the coverage you need.  I was amazed at how simple it was when I used a company called ” All About Seniors” owned by Scot  Kuslak.  What I liked about him is that he charges no fees, he represents alot of different companies and he understands each person is different and therefore requires a unique policy.  Make sure that 1) YOU ARE NOT SPENDING MORE THAN YOU NEED TO 2) YOU ARE COVERED FOR WHAT YOU WANT TO BE COVERED FOR.  Insurance is in a nutshell a neccesary evil, make sure you understand what coverage you have and that you know what you are paying for.  Make sure and inform your family of what you are doing so that they know you have it so that if you are not able to tell them they will already know.  Being prepared is way more than half the battle.

“We had no deficiencies” in recent state audit

July 11, 2008

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Omega Home Health, with headquarters in Tyler, announced today that they received a perfect evaluation by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability in a routine audit of business procedures and patient care.

“We had no deficiencies,” said Rhonda DeDear R.N. owner and administrator. “We are extremely proud of our staff and nurses who helped us achieve this perfect audit. This helps confirm that our services are top-notch and in compliance with state requirements for patient care.”

The Tyler Area Chamber of Commerce officially “cut the ribbon” to open the established health care agency at their new location on Highway 69N. The agency was acquired by Rhonda and Brent DeDear, in January. The DeDears purchased Omega Home Health from David and Deborah Tinsley who are current owners of Exceptional Home Health Pediatrics.

Wayne Palk, Executive Marketing Director, conducted tours of the offices and answered questions from the media, family members, and dignitaries in attendance. Palk, who joined the Omega team in May, is also in charge of the agency’s public relations. He is available to speak at organization meetings concerning the area of home health and senior citizens.

Beef brisket was served and special Dutch Oven Deserts were prepared by Ronnie Brown who is active in Dutch Oven cooking competitions.
